Kolkata: A team of surgeons here stitched back the severed hand of a seven-year-old boy in a rare six-hour long operation.
Barun Khandelwal’s left hand got severed in an accident in his building’s lift last week. Remarkably, without getting scared, the boy picked up the detached portion of his hand and went to his flat and informed his grandmother about the incident.
Barun’s grandmother immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where after two rounds of surgeries, the severed portion was stitched back.
“Barun is a brave boy. Right now he is fine. We will discharge him after seven-eight days. Actually, a detached hand can be joined if operated within three-four hours of the accident, because after that, the hand muscles become dead,” plastic surgeon Anupam Golash, who lead the team, told IANS Sunday.
