DMK leader surrenders in land grab cases

Salem (Tamil Nadu) : DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu minister Veerapandi Arumugam, accused in two cases of land grab, Monday surrendered to police on the directions of the Madras High Court.

He was later brought before a local court in this Tamil Nadu city, around 325 km from Chennai, and sent to police custody.

The DMK leader will appear before the local court July 27 for getting bail.

Arumugam had applied for anticipatory bail but the high court July 22 directed him to surrender to the Salem police and secure regular bail July 27 executing a bond for Rs.25,000 and two sureties for a like sum.

The two cases are one for forcible eviction of over 20 persons from a colony here and the other involving a property worth over Rs.80 crore.
