25,228-page Lokayukta report names chief minister, predecessor

Bangalore: The report on illegal mining in Karnataka is voluminous indeed! It runs into 25,228 pages and blames Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa and his predecessor H.D. Kumaraswamy among others, said Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde soon after submitting the report to the state government.

The Lokayukta officials sifted through 400,000 files and five million entries in various documents to compile the report, Hegde told a crowded press conference after sending the document to the state Chief Secretary S.V. Ranganath.

Apart from Yeddyurappa and Kumaraswamy, the report finds guilty billionaire mine owners and ministers G. Janardhana Reddy (tourism) and G. Karunakara Reddy (revenue), their associate and Health Minister B. Sriramuly, Housing Minister V. Somanna and Congress Rajya Sabha member Anil Lad.

The report also identifies 787 officials involved in some way in the illegal mining scam, he said.

Some of these officials have been identified by name and others by their designation, the Hegde said.
