Gandhinagar: Gujarat Health and Tourism Minister Jaynarayan Vyas Tuesday accused the Congress-led UPA government at the centre of misusing the CBI to harass the democratically elected government of the state.
Refering to a sting operation carried out by a news channel, Vyas, the official spokesperson of the state government, said it amply exposed the central government’s motive of defaming the Gujarat government.
“Naimuddim, brother of Sohrabuddin, has revealed the fact that not a single minister or agency of the state government was involved in the Sohrabuddin case. On the contrary Naimuddim was pressurized by the CBI to give a statement against the Gujarat government,” Vyas said.
“One more fact that Naimuddim has revealed before camera is that the third person who was with Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausarbi was none else but the notorious Kalimuddin. This proves that the probe made by the Gujarat Police into the case was correct,” said Vyas.
“But some so-called NGOs challenged the probe made by Gujarat Police and so the case was transferred to CBI. Now, the latest revelations in the sting operations have raised questions against the creditability of CBI itself,” he said.
Another sting operation relating to a private builder of Ahmedabad city also confirmed that there was no political hand behind the case. Firing was resorted to to scare and threaten the concerned people, he said.
“The central government is using CBI as a means to harass the popular Gujarat government which is a threat for the democratic system of the nation,” Vyas said.
Soharabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausarbi were picked up by Gujarat Police while they were travelling to Sangli in Maharashtra from Hyderabad Nov 22, 2005. On Nov 26, 2005, he was killed in an alleged staged shootout in Gujarat by policemen belonging to anti-terrorist squad.
Kausarbi too is believed to have been killed later by Gujarat Police.
