Attari (Punjab) : Seen as a confidence building measure, India Tuesday repatriated through the land route here 91 Pakistanis who had been jailed in Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana.
They included 87 fishermen who were caught in Indian waters near the Gujarat coast. The Pakistanis had spent one to five years in Indian jails.
The Pakistan high commission in New Delhi issued emergency travel papers to enable them to return to Pakistan.
The fisherman had been lodged in the Jamnagar jail in Gujarat. Two prisoners were in an Amritsar prison, one in jail in Sangrur in Punjab and one was jailed in Haryana.
Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir entered India from the Wagah-Attari land route border Monday evening en route to New Delhi for talks.
