New Delhi: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi Sunday began a meeting with top party leaders and key central ministers at her 10, Janpath residence to discuss the
fall out of the crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
The meeting is being attended by senior ministers including P. Chidambaram and Kapil Sibal and in-charges of the party’s state units, party sources said.
Post-midnight Saturday, hundreds of Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel descended on the sprawling Ramlila Ground here and abruptly ended the 46-year-old guru’s indefinite hunger strike seeking measures to check corruption and bring back money stashed abroad by Indians.
The Congress meet comes in the wake of some of its leaders, like general secretary Digvijay Singh, launching a scathing attack on Ramdev and calling him a “thug”.
The party is also concerned about the situation where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – which has already launched a satyagraha against the crackdown – and other opposition parties attempting to derive political capital out of the situation, party sources said.
