The blast occurred in Ranipora village of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, 64 km from here, when some scrap was being loaded onto an autorikshaw, police said.

“Some live explosive device, most likely a hand grenade, exploded in the house of the scrap dealer, resulting in the death of a labourer identified as 42-year old Abdul Hamid Dar who belonged to the Qazigund area of Anantnag,” Shafqat Ahmad Watali, deputy inspector general of police (DIG) told IANS.

“Two women identified as Gowhara and Munira also sustained injuries. They have been shifted to district hospital Anantnag for treatment. An investigation has already been started to ascertain other details of the incident.”

A civilian was killed by unidentified gunmen in summer capital Srinagar Monday. He was shot at point blank range in the Lal Chowk area of the city. The victim belonged to north Kashmir’s Sopore town.

Despite speculation about reasons behind Monday’s attack in the heart of Srinagar city, the exact reasons for the murder are still being established by police.
