“Around 40 volunteers from NGos like India Against Corruption and Bharat Swabhiman undertook the fast. Five of them have been fasting since Saturday when Ramdev started his agitation,” said Praful Vora, Mumbai coordinator of Indian Against Corruption.

“We are protesting the undemocratic means used by the government and the barbaric act of Delhi Police in its crackdown on Ramdev and thousands of supporters after midnight Saturday,” Vora added.

Around 100 farmers from Vidarbha also supported Hazare’s fast in New Delhi. They are also demanding better agricultural policies.

“Vidarbha farmers are innocent victims and this is a rare opportunity for us to express our despair. Earlier, we supported Anna Hazare’s fast and now we are supporting Baba Ramdev’s agitation,” Kishor Tiwari of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti said.

Hazare observed his one-day fast Wednesday in front of Rajghat in New Delhi where he called it “the second independence struggle”.

He said he would again launch an indefinite hunger strike Aug 16, a day after India’s independence day if the Lokpal bill is not passed.
