MANUU to hold national workshop on digital library

Hyderabad: With an aim to provide practical training to build digital library or institutional repository collection, Central Library of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is organizing a National Workshop on “DSpace Digital Library” from 21st to 24th June 2011.

The workshop is specially designed for Library professionals, Library Science academicians, Information managers and Library Science students. The timing of the workshop will be 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at MANUU Central Library.

A number of pieces of free software are available for developing digital libraries. Dspace is one of the most popular software, jointly developed and promoted by MIT and HP.

The topics which will be covered at the workshop include institutional repository, digital library, overview of DSpace, installation of DSpace, DSpace administration, workflow, customization, submission workflow, user customization, handles persistent identifiers to each and digital object in the repository.

The registration fee to attend the workshop is Rs. 800/ that includes workshop kit & related software, working lunch and tea. Registration form can be sent along with fees by Bank Draft drawn in favor of ‘Finance Officer, MANUU’ payable at Hyderabad. The registration is limited to first 40 applicants. Accommodation on twin sharing basis will be provided at University Guest House on receipt of payment (charges: Rs 1200/- per participant).

Prof. Shabahat Husain, AMU, Aligarh, Dr. Gayas Makhdumi, JMI, New Delhi and other eminent professionals will speak on the occasion and Dr. B. Ravi Rao and Mr. C. Pradeep, both from University of Hyderabad, will be thematic resource persons.
