Ministers need to learn about democracy: Anna Hazare

By IANS,

New Delhi: Hitting back at Home Minister P. Chidambaram for calling the anti-corruption agitation a threat to democracy, veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare Wednesday said ministers need to learn about democracy.

“The ministers need to learn about democracy. In a democracy, the public’s view must be taken before drafting any bill. I feel they need to be taught what is democracy,” Hazare said shortly before ending his day-long fast at Rajghat here to protest the police crackdown against Baba Ramdev’s agitation last week.

Hazare said that if the government thinks the agitation against corruption and his fast is blackmailing, then the civil society will continue the blackmail.

“If they call this blackmailing, we will continue to blackmail,” Hazare said, adding: “If he thinks it is a danger, he can put us in jail as they baton-charged the public there (in the Ramlila Ground post-midnight June 4).

“We are ready, we will get two square meals,” he said taking a dig at the government.
