Ahmedabad: In a terrible incident, at least 18 pilgrims were killed on Wednesday night when a loaded truck ran over them while they were sleeping near a roadside `dhaba’ at Beghwa Dholka-Bagodara Highway near Ahmedabad.
The victims were the part of a group of Muslims who were going to attend urs at Bhadiyad Peer Dargah in Dholka village about 20 km from Ahmedabad. The mishap took place when they were in deep sleep and the truck driver, who lost control, ran over them.

Sixteen persons, including nine women, were killed on the spot and many got injured. The injured were admitted to hospital. Two of them, succumbed to injuries in the hospital. The toll of death may rise as some of them are in critical condition.
The truck involved in the accident was from Madhya Pradesh. It was going from Katni in Madhya Pradesh to Vakaner in Rajkot. The truck driver and cleaner succeeded to flee from the spot.
