No political interference in administration, says Mamata

By IANS,

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday said she would ensure that the state’s administration is free from political affiliation and political interference.

“Administration will function as it should, it will be free from political interferences. The administration should be allowed to function independently and impartially,” said Banerjee.

“I am not like the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M). So I stand by what I have said. I would not tolerate any political interference in the functioning of the administration. I have asked the officials to report to me directly if any political leaders interfere.”

Expressing concern at the quantity of arms and ammunition recovered across the state since the assembly polls, Banerjee said: “It is a matter of deep concern that a huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the state. Such a quantity is not even found from a battlefield after war.”

She urged people not to take law and order in their hands and requested them to cooperate with police. “If you have any information, then pass it to the police but do not take law and order in your hands,” she said, adding she has already made the same request earlier.
