Sonia orchestrated police attack on Ramdev: BJP leader

By IANS,

Panaji: The police action against Baba Ramdev and his followers at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground last week was undertaken on Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s instructions, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arti Mehra said Thursday, demanding an apology from her.

Mehra, who was mayor of Delhi in 2008, is now the BJP’s secretary in-charge of Goa and was speaking to reporters in Panaji, after a meeting of the party’s local unit.

“The orders for police action (at Ramlila Ground) was given by Sonia Gandhi. Information available to us through our sources and the manner in which Prime minister Manmohan Singh reacted to the police attack on innocent protesting citizens showed that the orders came from her,” Mehra said.

“We demand an apology from Sonia Gandhi. On the one hand, her son Rahul Gandhi shows ‘concern’ for the farmers in UP (Uttar Pradesh), but acts contrary when it comes to Ramdev Baba,” she added.

Mehra alleged that the Congress-led government and the Congress party were walking disparate paths and that bad decisions taken by Sonia Gandhi and her Congress high command were heaped on the government set-up.

“The Congress party clearly feels that the UPA government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh has become a liability and is distancing itself from the actions of the government,” she alleged.
