Hyderabad, June 10 (IANS) Popular Telugu film actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, son of the late Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder and former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao, Friday said he would soon join active politics.

“I will soon enter active politics,” said Balakrishna, who campaigned for the TDP in the 2009 elections but did not participate in the party activities, on the occasion of his 51st birthday.

The actor’s remark is significant amid reports of a succession war between the families of NTR and his son-in-law and TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

Balakrishna’s elder brother and TDP politburo member N. Harikrishna had openly expressed his resentment at the party conclave here last month over the alleged attempts by Naidu to promote his son Nara Lokesh as his successor.

Harkrishna wants to see his son and young actor Junior NTR as the next party chief.

However, Balakrishna, whose daughter is married to Lokesh, denied that the party was ignoring Nandamuri family and said all were equal in the party.

Balakrishna, who launched his new movie ‘Harahara Mahadev’ on his birthday, said films and politics were his two eyes.

NTR, a popular film actor, had formed TDP in 1982 and created record of sort by coming to power within nine months, ended the monopoly of Congress in the state politics until then.

NTR, who was unseated in a coup led by his son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu in Aug 1995, died five months later.

Naidu, who retained power in 1999, remained chief minister till 2004 when the Congress returned to power in the state.
