Chennai: The Chennai Press Club Saturday condemned the murder of senior crime journalist Jyotindra Dey of Mumbai-based eveninger Mid Day earlier in the day.
Dey was shot dead by unidentified people near Powai in northwest Mumbai Saturday afternoon, according to police.
“The brutal murder in broad daylight is an open challenge to the free press. We request the Maharashtra government to take this incident seriously and take action on a war-footing to arrest the perpetrators and also provide adequate protection to journalists,” the Chennai Press Club said in a statement.
The press club also appealed to all journalists across the country to condemn this incident and stand united against this latest daring attack on the freedom of press.
“We also express our sincere and hearty condolences to the family and friends of the deceased Dey,” the press club said.
