Karachi killing: Four Rangers to be presented in court

By IANS,

Islamabad : Four Pakistani paramilitary personnel would be presented Monday in an anti-terrorism court in Karachi for their involvement in the killing of an unarmed man allegedly caught stealing from visitors to a park, Geo News reported.

Sarfaraz Shah, 25, was shot dead by the Sindh Rangers June 8 outside the Benazir Shaheed Park in Karachi after he was allegedly caught snatching cash and valuables from visitors.

Footage released by news channels showed Shah was unarmed and was shot from a very close range. The video clips also reportedly showed he was pleading for mercy.

A supreme court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary ordered June 10 the removal of Sindh Rangers director general and inspector general of police.

Two of the Rangers personnel involved in the killing – Mohammad Afzal Khan and Shahid Zafar – are already on remand till June 15.

Four others would be presented Monday in the special Anti-Terrorism Court at the Sindh High Court, the report said.

The investigation team formed by the Supreme Court has confiscated the official arms and mobile phones of the paramilitary personnel.

The team also recorded their statements Sunday.
