Addressing party leaders and workers at the state BJP headquarters here, Uma Bharti, who has been entrusted the responsibility of rejuvenating the party in the state, said Mayawati had failed to live up to the expectations of the people.

“When Mayawati became chief minister, I had said on a TV show that the people of the state have reposed a lot of faith and hope in Mayawati, but if she failed to live up to their expectations, she would not find space for herself even in hell,” Uma Bharti told the gathering.

“I had expressed hope that she would not belie the people’s hopes, but sadly, she has failed to live up to their expectations,” she said.

She said: “As far as I am concerned, she remains like an elder sister therefore I would address her as ‘didi’ but I would like to remind that her ascent to power had generated hopes in all sections of society be it women, farmers, traders, employees, Dalits and minorities.”
