Patna. Shagufta Azim has been re-elected as the chairperson of Araria Zila Parishad. The election for the post was held on June 22 in the presence of district officials as well as officers of Election Commission.

The district has 30 seats of Zila Parishad which elect chairperson among themselves. As the votes were counted, Shagufta got 19 votes defeating Rekha Devi who secured 10 votes while one vote was declared invalid due to technical fault.
A post-graduate Shugufta contested unsuccessfully the Assembly Elections in 2011 as the Congress candidate from Sikti constituency of Araria district. 33-year old, Shagufta has a political background to back her in the murky waters of politics. Her father in-law, Azimuddin was a minister in the state government and her husband Aftabd Azim Pappu was the first chairperson of Araria Zila Parishad.
