“What can be a more dangerous pointer to the chaos and intrigue within the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government than the fact that the finance minister writes to the prime minister to conduct an inquiry into how, and who, bugged his office,” Advani said.

“There is something very suspicious going on in the government. There is an attempt to suppress this very serious matter. The prime minister must break his silence and tell the nation what exactly happened and who was responsible,” Advani added.

According a newspaper report, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee wrote to the prime minister in September last year, asking him to order a “secret inquiry” after some adhesives were found planted in his office and in some other areas in the ministry’s North Block office.

Mukherjee later said that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) had investigated the case, but found nothing.
