Ranchi : Stating that Rs.26,800 per month was not “enough to meet the social and family requirements”, Jharkhand assembly speaker C.P. Singh Sunday demanded a hike in the salaries of legislators.
“Even legislators have families and their children study in technical institutes… Take example of others states where legislators are getting more salary in comparison to Jharkhand,” Singh told reporters.
Besides the monthly salary, each Jharkhand legislator gets fuel and travel allowances, free telephone and other facilities. The legislator also gets Rs.3 crore under the Local area Development (LAD) fund which is perhaps the highest in the country.
The issue of salary hike was raised during the budget session of the assembly and a recommendation was also made.
According to reliable sources, if the state government accepts the recommendation, then each legislator will get around Rs.1 lakh per month.
