Gales and downpours generated by the storm have hit 17 counties in Liaoning, Zhejiang and Shandong provinces since Saturday, Xinhua reported citing the ministry of civil affairs.

The floods have forced the evacuation of 7,500 people, affected 33,000 hectares of farmland and destroyed 400 houses, the ministry said.

The disaster has caused an economic loss of nearly 200 million yuan (around $30 million).

The meteorological authority has forecast that Meari would head for the Korean peninsula.
