The multi-coloured World Cup’s replica, made from around 5,000 flowers, is spreading its fragrance inside the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy, where it has been put on display.

“While it’s yet to be seen whether India would be able to repeat the 1983 history by winning the Word Cup, we have definitely created history of sorts by erecting the giant replica of the World Cup prepared from different flowers,” Jamil Shamsi, a florist who monitored the preparation of the replica, told reporters.

“We always wanted to make the Men in Blue feel special. As flowers are the best medium to convey feelings, we decided to prepare a giant replica of the World Cup that would surely serve as an inspiration for Dhoni and team to win the Word Cup,” he added.

It took around four days for the 20-odd workers to erect the replica, which would be on display till Saturday. Flowers like orchids, jarbera, rajnigandha have been used.

“We called workers from West Bengal. They worked for around six-seven hours daily to get the replica completed,” said Shamsi.

In order to keep the flowers fresh, workers sprinkle water at regular intervals. Moreover, the replica has been kept in a `pandal’ so that it cannot be affected by direct sunlight.
