“There has been fresh snowfall in the Bannihal Tunnel of the Srinagar-Jammu highway and over one foot of snow has accumulated on the road in this sector,” G.M. Wadoo, superintendent of police traffic (rural), told IANS explaining why the highway had been closed.

“No traffic will be allowed to ply on the highway today. The Border Roads Organization has moved men and machinery to clear the accumulated snow. Highly overcast weather continues in other parts of the over 300 km long road as well.”

Kashmir has been witnessing incessant rains in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches. The weather office has forecast wet weather during the next 24 hours here.
