With departure of Arjun Singh Indian Muslims lost a close friend: AFMI

Farmington, Minnesota: The American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) expressed its deep sorrow at the passing away of veteran Congress leader Mr. Arjun Singh and said that with his demise Indian Muslims have lost a close friend who always stood by them in their times of crisis.

“He was a strong defender of secularism in India and had competently defended the idea when it came under immense pressure from the divisive forces. The courage shown by him during the tragic episode of Babri Masjid will be remembered forever in the annals of history” said a statement releases by AFMI.

“As the Union Minister for Human Resource Development Mr. Singh had played an important role in attempting to cleanse the country’s textbooks from the pro-Hindutva bias which had crept in during the NDA rule” it added.

Arjun Singh, a former Union Minister, Chief Minister and Governor, died on 4th March 2011. He was known as staunch loyalist of the Gandhi family and played a key role in Sonia Gandhi’s taking command of Congress. He was suffering from chronic diseases and was in All India Institute of Medical Sciences for last 15 days.
