Photo-journalist killed in road accident

Chandigarh : A photo-journalist of a leading national daily was killed while three reporters were injured in a road accident, police said Sunday.

The accident occurred Saturday night at Khanpur village near Kharar town of Punjab, around 15 km from Chandigarh.

According to the police, the dead photo-journalist was identified as Aditya Jaitley, who was working with Times of India in Ludhiana city.

“Jaitley and three other journalists, including the paper’s bureau chief in Ludhiana, were coming to Chandigarh in a car when it collided with a truck. Jaitley was taken to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here where doctors declared him dead,” a Punjab Police officer said.

“The three others were also injured in this accident and they are admitted in hospital. All of them are out of danger,” the officer added. A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal have expressed grief over the accident.
