Kamala Surayya Award for Punathil Kunjabdulla

    Thiruvananthapuram: Punathil Kunjabdulla and KG Shankarapilla have won this year’s Kamala Surayya Awards for story and poems, respectively. The Award comprises of an amount of Rs 51,000, memorandum and certificate. It will be presented on March 30 in Thiruvananthapuram.

    Kunjabdulla’s work ‘Ente Kamukilmarum Mattu Kathakalum’ and Shankarapilla’s ‘Orma Kondu Thurakkavunna Vathilukal’brought them the Award.


    Punathil Kunjabdulla

    Mr Kunjabdulla was born in 1940 at Vadakara in Kozhikode. A well-known Malayalam short-story writer and novelist, Kunjabdulla was awarded the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award in 1980 for his novel ‘Smarakasilakal’. An alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University and doctor by profession, Kunjabdulla has been the recipient of several awards and honours such as the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award (for ‘Smarakasilakal’ in 1978 and ‘Malamukalile Abdulla’ in 1980) and the Muttathu Varkey Award.
