Chittagong: Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan admitted that his team is tense ahead of their World Cup Group B match here Friday against England.
Bangladesh have so far won only one of the three matches they have played so far and were thrashed by West Indies in the last match in Dhaka. The team was all out for 58 batting first and that did not go down well with the fans.
The game here against England becomes all the more important as a loss here could dent Bangladesh’s chances of progressing to the quarterfinals stage.
Hasan said the mood in the camp is tense but the players are confident of a strong comeback.
“The boys will be a bit tense but we believe if we can play well we can beat any team and we are confident enough to do the right thing,” said Hasan.
“Some day if you play well, they will cheer for you and some day if you don’t play well they will abuse you. So we are not thinking about our crowd. We have to do our stuff. We know what we can do and we hope to do those things right.
Shakib said the criticism directed at him after the West Indies game helped his team members to get over the defeat.
“Since everything was coming upon me, the team was spared. So motivating them became relatively easier,” he said.
