Left fields 150 new faces for West Bengal poll

By IANS,

Kolkata : West Bengal’s ruling Left Front Sunday released a list of 292 candidates for the April-May state assembly elections. Over half of the candidates are new faces and nine ministers are among the sitting legislators dropped for the poll.

The other two candidates for the 294-member assembly will be announced later, said Left Front chairman Biman Bose, who released the list in the presence of leaders of other constituent parties.

Almost 150 new candidates figure in the list. The nine ministers dropped from the list chose not to contest the poll due to various reasons, party leaders said.

Polling in the six-phase elections will be held April 18, 23, 27, May 3, 7 and 10. Counting will take place on May 13.
