Heed Bihar’s concerns on seeds bill, PM urged

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take into account the concerns of the state on the proposed Seeds Bill, 2010.

“I would like to draw your kind attention to the letter written to the union minister of agriculture (Sharad Pawar), raising the concerns of the state to the proposed seeds bill. I hope that concerns of the state are addressed before the bill is passed by parliament,” Nitish Kumar said in a letter written to the prime minister.

In a reference to his protest against Bt-maize trial by a multinational company in Bihar, Nitish Kumar made it clear in his letter that he is totally against the use of Bt-maize trial. “I am against the use of Bt-maize trial by a multinational company without proper safeguard norms,” he said.
