WikiLeaks: BJP’s double standards exposed, says Moily

By IANS,

New Delhi: Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily Saturday said the WikiLeaks latest expose about the BJP’s private conversations with American diplomats on the India-US nuclear deal had exposed its “double standards”.

“This is totally a double standard. They will have to answer why they behave like this,” Moily told reporters here.

In the latest WikiLeaks revelations, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) party leadership reportedly told US diplomats that its criticism of them in public was to score “easy political points” against the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and when they would come to power, they wouldn’t harm the India-US nuclear deal.

The latest expose — which comes after the WikiLeaks revelation that the Congress had allegedly bribed some opposition MPs to win the 2008 trust vote — drew strong reaction from the ruling party.

The BJP, however, maintained that it had genuinely opposed the nuclear liability bill and it was only because of its strong position that the government introduced 16 amendments to the legislation.
