Ahmedabad : International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Haroon Lorgat Wednesday rubbished media reports that the World Cup group match between Australia and Zimbabwe is being probed for match fixing.
Lorgan also attempted to dispel security concerns if Pakistan play their semifinal and final match in India.
“Pakistan will play in India if they win the quarterfinal. There are no concerns and we have a very robust and mature security process in place. I am confident that whatever measures are required will be in place. I am impressed with the security provided by the state,” Lorgat said.
A national daily Tuesday claimed that Australia-Zimbabwe Group A clash that was played here Feb 21 was being probed by the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ASCSU) after the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested three Dawood men from the same hotel in which both the teams were staying.
“The article can only be described as fictional. We do not comment on the activities of the ACSU and for a good reason,” Lorgat fumed.
“However, after several misleading and downright false stories appearing in recent weeks it is time for us to show our displeasure and expose those responsible for affecting the integrity of the media.
“It is also patently false to claim that the ICC ever suggested that the match was corrupted. The ICC confirms that, in terms of its policy, at no stage did anyone from the ICC speak on this topic.”
