New Delhi : A Delhi court Friday rejected the bail plea of the director of the India operations of a Swiss company, Sandeep Wadhwa, arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) overlays scam.
CBI Special Judge O.P. Saini said: “The allegation in the first information report are quite serious and the allegation against the accused are duly supporting the evidence on record. Therefore, I am not inclined to enlarge the accused on bail.”
“The investigation is still in the initial stage and all the witnesses have not been examined as yet, neither have all the documents been collected,” said the court while rejecting Wadhwa bail application.
He will have to remain in the jail till April 7.
The court also said that if the accused is released on the bail at this stage of investigation he may tamper with the investigation.
Wadhwa, the managing director of Comfort Net Traders India, a part of Switzerland-based Nussli India Consortium, was arrested March 7.
The company was given a contract of nearly Rs.140 crore for supplying tents, portable cabins, containers and other items for the six venues of the Commonwealth Games in October last year.
“The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian unit of a Canadian company to supply steel-based modular fittings for six CWG venues,” the CBI said.
