Thiruvananthapuram : He has been chairman of the CPI-M-backed Kairali TV channel since its inception in the mid-90s. Nevertheless veteran superstar Mammootty believes Kerala’s rival fronts have an equal chance in next month’s assembly polls.
“It is going to be a 50-50 chance because everything is unpredictable and the scenario is changing by the day,” Mammootty told IANS over phone from Hyderabad, where he is shooting for his latest film “1993 Bombay March 12”.
Kerala goes to the polls April 13 to elect 140 legislators.
Despite his affiliation to the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), the superstar maintains good relations with politicians cutting across political parties.
“The week before the election date would be the most crucial and the outcome of the polls and who forms the government will depend on the events that unfold during that period,” believes Mammootty.
Asked if he would vote, he said, “It will depend on my schedule and where I am on that day.” Over the years, ever since he shifted base from Chennai to Kochi, he and his wife have rarely missed the chance to vote.
Mammootty’s newest blockbuster “August 15” hit the theatres Thursday and the initial reports are good.
