Women MPs discuss matters relating to women

New Delhi : Around 22 women MPs Thursday discussed various issues and laws relating to women and planned to take up the matter in parliament.The National Commission for Women organised the meet here Thursday. Commission chairperson Girija Vyas and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Brinda Karat, along with other members, were present at the meet.

Some of the issues discussed were pushing for the Women’s Reservation Bill, which has been passed by the Rajya Sabha, in the Lok Sabha; Protection of Women against Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill; Domestic Violence Act; dowry-related matters and various recommendations and amendments.

In the meet, it was stressed that the women MPs must take up the matter in the house on a regular basis.

Vyas said: “Women MPs should take up initiative to constitute a small committee specifically to take up issue relating to women in the parliament.”
