Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi Sunday appealed to party’s rebel candidates to withdraw their nominations for the April 13 assembly polls.
Expressing his pain at seeing party members filing nominations as independent candidates after failing to get the party ticket, Karunanidhi appealed to the rebel candidates to prove their loyalty to the party and maintain party discipline by withdrawing.
In a statement issued here, he said contesting against official candidate is like slitting the throat of the party, built over the years.
He said maintaining discipline is important amongst the three major principles – duty, dignity and discipline – that the party cadres should follow.
Deviating from the principles of duty and dignity would not affect the party in a major way whereas indiscipline would impact the party, he added.
