Amritsar : Around 325 Pakistani cricket fans, including officials and relatives of the players, crossed over into India through the Attari-Wagah check-post on the eve of Wednesday’s India-Pakistan World Cup semifinal at Mohali, an official said.
The Pakistani fans included Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt, Pakistan government secretary Zafar Mahmood, Chaudhry Abdul Jalil, who is also known as “Chacha Cricket”, the family members of Pakistani wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and the family members of the governor of Punjab province.
So far around 375 Pakistani have arrived in India during the last six days.
“Around 325 Pakistanis have crossed the border through Attari-Wagah check-post today (Tuesday). They took around four to five hours in the transit and in getting all the clearances,” said a custom official.
These fans are looking forward to see the crucial semifinal at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Mohali Wednesday.
In the wake of increased influx of Pakistanis for the match, India has also beefed up the security checks at the border.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani will also be witnessing the high-voltage day-night match.
Earlier PCA had given only 50 tickets to the PCB but seeing the craze among Pakistan fans they sent 200 more passes Monday.
