Six drug peddlers arrested

Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) : Six people, among them four women, involved in a Nepal-based racket supplying illegal drugs, were arrested here with cannabis worth around Rs.25 lakh, police said Tuesday.

The six drug peddlers, four hailing from Bihar, were nabbed late Monday from Prem Nagar area of Bareilly, 250 km from Lucknow.

According to police, the drug peddlers operated in various states of the country, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the six have been working for the Nepal-based racket for the last five to six years,” Police Inspector Karan Singh told reporters here.

“The six were arrested while they were on their way to hand over the illegal consignment of drugs to some of their clients. Of the six, the four women are from Bihar villages that are close to the border with Nepal. Their male accomplices are residents of Uttar Pradesh,” he added.
