Seminar on Fatwa — Its Relevance and Implication on the Society

Mumbai: The Institute of Islamic Studies, Mumbai is going to organize a one-day seminar on Fatwa — Its Relevance and Implication on the Society on 31st March here at Sarvodaya, St.Pius College, Aarey Road, Goregaon (East), Mumbai. The speakers include Dr. Asgahr Ali Engineer, Mufti Mohammad Arif Umri, Dr. Zeenat Shaukat Ali and Ms. Shazia Shaikh.

“Fatwas have resulted in great deal of controversies and has been a major issue of concern for the people working for the reform and welfare of the Muslim community in India. Today a stimulating debate is needed in the Muslim society facing contemporary problems. New thinking and new intellectual culture is very much required to help the cause of Muslims and Islam,” say the organizers.

The seminar will throw light on the origin of institution of Fatwa, its relevance in today’s context and its implication for the community. The speakers are Dr. Asgahr Ali Engineer, Mufti Mohammad Arif Umri, Dr. Zeenat Shaukat Ali and Ms. Shazia Shaikh. The participants mainly will be activists, journalists and academicians.
