Indian Fraternity Forum holds sports meet in Saudi Arabia

Dammam: The ‘Eastern Province Sports Meet – 2011’ was organized by the Dammam chapter of the India Fraternity Forum in Saudi Arabia on April 29. The meet was held as a kick-off event of the grand health campaign ‘Healthy life, Happy life’, informed the IFF in a press release.

Senior IFF leader Mr Sadiq Meeran of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the meet which was held from 6 am to 6 pm at the Marina Mall Ground, opposite Dammam Corniche in the city of Dammam. Mohammed Faisal (Tamil Nadu), Coordinator of the meet, emphasized the importance of exercises and games in maintaining the health of expatriates. He said it was a very valuable asset for the nation and community in general and the individual in particular.



Team ‘Royals’ bagged the ‘Eastern Province Sports Meet trophy’. Various track & field events and games were held such as kabaddi, tug of war, sack race, three-leg race, shot put, 4×400 metres relay, 100 metres race and 3000 metres race. Five teams participated in the meet besides the champions ‘Royals’; the other teams were Challengers, Blue Sky, Galaxy, Popular and Crescent.

Mr Nazarul Islam Choudhury, an IFF member hailing from Assam, introduced the IFF and its various social welfare activities at the closing and prize distribution ceremony held at 5.30 pm. He emphasized on the activities such as health campaign, Hajj volunteer services, and legal and moral assistance to Indian expatriates throughout the kingdom.



Prizes were distributed to the winners as well as other participants by Mr Ali, manager of Nellara Foods, Mr Alam Nizami Bihar, secretary of Bihar Jharkhand Association, Mr Moideen Kutty alias Mana of Kerala, and Dr Nazrudheen, Ortho Specialist from the Al Faraby Dispensary, Dammam. Mr AM Arif from Karnataka welcomed and anchored the event. Mr Afsar Hussain from Tamil Nadu delivered the vote of thanks.

A series of health awareness programmes are scheduled to be held all through the eastern province as part of the ‘Healthy life, Happy life’ awareness health campaign, said the press release of the IFF.
