Unique ID project launched in Orissa

Bhubaneswar : The exercise for issuing unique identification numbers (UIDs)to citizens kicked off in Orissa Monday with Governor M.C. Bhandare enrolling himself in a simple ceremony held here, officials said.

Bhandare was presented an “Aadhaar” (UID) acknowledgement receipt by C.H. Narasimha Rao, chief general manager, State Bank of India (SBI), Orissa.

The Unique Identification Authority of India, which under the chairmanship of Nandan Nilekani is the statutory nodal agency of the central government for the project, has appointed registrars across the country to facilitate the enrolment process.

Smart Chip Limited is the enrolment agency engaged by the in Orissa which is acting as registrar for the state under the scheme.

All residents of the state above the age of one will be enrolled under the project.
