Ex-SIO leader takes over as Bihar Ameer of Jamaat Islami

Patna: The Bihar zone of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, after several decades, has now elected a comparatively young person as its state president or Ameer-e-Halqa – the term used by the Jamaat. The newly elected Ameer Nayyaruzzaman is 48 while the outgoing Ameer Qamrul Huda, who had held the post for last 18 years, is 75.

Nayyaruzzaman comes from Kosi region of Bihar where he is known as an eminent religious and social persoanlity. He began his association with Jamaat Islami when he joined Muslim youth group Halqa Talaba Islami Bihar, the then unofficial youth wing of Jamaat Islami, in 1977. Five years later when Students Islamic Organisation was formed by merging several youth groups of Jamaat from across the country, Nayyaruzzaman became one of its founder member and member of its zonal advisoy council. Later he also served as Bihar president of SIO.

Masters from Mithila University, Nayyaruzzaman became member (rukn) of Jamaat Islami in 1985. For the last three terms, he was member of Bihar state advisory council of Jamaat, and for last one term he was also rendering his services as assistant Ameer of Bihar.

After assuming office in the state capital, Nayyaruzzaman addressed a moderate gathering of members of Jamaat and SIO at the newly built state headquarters of Jamaat on Sunday. Referring to the famous statement of second caliph Hazrat Umar which he gave soon after assuming charge after the death of first caliph Hazrat Abu Bakar, Nayyaruzzaman said: “Check me and hold my hand when you find me going away from the right path. You will soon find me on the right path.”

The program was also addressed by outgoing Ameer Qamrul Huda, former Ameer Ahmed Ali Akhtar and Patna unit Ameer Rizwan Ahmed Islahi.
