Bangalore : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday dropped its plan to protest in front of Raj Bhavan against Governor H.R. Bhardwaj’s recommendation to dismiss its government in Karnataka and instead held a rally at Gandhi statue nearby.
Shouting slogans like “Get out governor”, “Down with unconstitutional governor”, “Victory to BJP”, the party legislators, led by state unit president K.S. Eshwarappa, marched to the Gandhi statue in the heart of Bangalore from a hotel one km away after the legislators’ meeting.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who had earlier said he would lead the protest at Raj Bhavan, dropped out of the march.
The state cabinet would meet later Monday and pass a resolution demanding immediate recall of Bhardwaj and also fix a date for an assembly session, BJP spokesperson and former central minister V. Dhananjaya Kumar told reporters.
