Chennai: AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the third time today. She and her 33 Cabinet ministers were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Surjit Singh Barnala. Jayalalithaa has inducted one Muslim in her cabinet. He is N Mariam Pitchai. He has been given Environment and Pollution Control, Minorities Welfare including Wakf.
AIADMK MLA from Tiruchirappalli (West) assembly constituency, Pitchai is among three Muslim MLAs of AIADMK. MMK, the AIADMK ally in this poll, has two Muslim MLAs that include MMK chief Prof. MH Jawahirullah. In the just concluded assembly poll 2011, only six Muslims have been elected to the assembly. In the last assembly there were seven Muslim MLAs.
Portfolios hav also been assigned to the 33 ministers. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will hold the portfolios of Police, Home, Public, Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Forest Service, General Administration, District Revenue Officers, Prevention of Corruption among others.
