Islamabad : At least 15 suspected Pakistani Taliban militants and two police officials were killed when a group of rebels attacked a check post Wednesday morning in Pakistan’s Peshawar city, media reports said.
Police said at least a score of militants attacked the Manzor Shaheed check post on Barah Road in Sangu area, Online news agency reported.
The attack began shortly after midnight Tuesday and lasted until almost dawn Wednesday, police said.
An earlier report by Xinhua citing Pakistani media said 20 militants were killed when over 100 militants attacked the Peshawar check post.
The attackers used hand grenades and rockets. Police retaliated killing at least 15, but the others managed to flee.
In another incident, at least seven people, including a five-year-old child, were gunned down Wednesday by unidentified militants in Quetta city, police said.
Police said gunmen on a motorbike sprayed bullets at a minibus at Kalicoharabad area.
Five people were also injured in the shooting.
