New Delhi: The Delhi government will ask the central government to hike the city’s Haj quota, saying there has been a regular increase in the number of pilgrims.

Out of 6,889 applicants, 719 were selected through a draw of lots for this year’s annual Haj.

Delhi Revenue Minister A.K. Walia said: “The government will approach the centre seeking an increase in the Haj quota.”

He pointed out that 1,222 seats were allocated to the Delhi State Haj Committee for 2011 whereas 204 seats were added by the Haj Committee of India out of the surrendered seats by other states.
