New Delhi: Home Minister P. Chidambaram said Wednesday that an “oversight” had led to the goof-up in including the name of a Mumabi-based accused, Wazhul Qamar Khan, in the ’50 Most Wanted’ list of Indian terrorists hiding in Pakistan. He also said that the “home ministry takes responsibility” for the goof-up.
Addressing a press conference here, Chidambaram said: “It is not a monumental mistake. It is an oversight.”
Khan, a resident of Thane on the Mumbai outskirts, was arrested in 2009 in connection with the 2003 Mulund blast, but was later granted bail by a court. A national daily reported Tuesday that Khan was living in Mumbai and not in Pakistan, as India had informed Pakistan recently.
According to Chidambaram, though the Mumbai police informed the IB of the arrest of Khan, it had not formally intimated the agencies to remove him from the list of those facing an Interpol red corner notice.
The home minister said Khan’s name was in the list of terrorists passed to Pakistan.
