Hyderabad: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi, who survived an assassination attempt by his rivals last month, was Friday discharged from the hospital.
The young leader came out of Care Hospital, where was admitted April 30 after he was stabbed and shot at by a group of assailants in his Chandrayangutta constituency.
Akbar, who leads the seven-member MIM in the 294-member Andhra Pradesh assembly, smiled and waved at a large number of supporters who had gathered outside the hospital to greet him as he was wheeled out of the hospital.
Akbar was accompanied by his elder brother, MIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi, and party legislators and other leaders.
The 38-year-old leader was critically injured when 10-15 assailants attacked him when he was visiting his constituency. One attacker was killed and two others were injured when the security guard of another MIM legislator Ahmed Balala opened fire to save Akbaruddin.
Police said the attack was related to a dispute between Akbaruddin and his rival Mohammed Pahelwan over a piece of land, which the latter had allegedly encroached.
