North India gets brief relief on a less hot day

New Delhi : Heat wave conditions abated a bit in some places in the northern region Friday. The weather office has forecast fairly widespread rainfall in some states like Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.

According to India Meteorological Department, Rajasthan continued to reel under a heat wave, recording a maximum of 46.5 degrees celsius at Pilani – the highest across north India Friday.

After sweltering days, the capital saw a relatively pleasant morning which, however, gave way to a hot day later.

The mercury touched 40 degrees Celsius, a notch above the average, while the minimum was at 25.1 degrees, two notches above the average.

“There is a possibility of thunderstorms and light rainfall in parts of the city over the next 24 hours. The skies will remain partly cloudy,” the IMD official said.

“After days of scorching heat, the day was better, it was little breezy. Hope we have some thunder showers in the coming days,” said Om Prakash, a medical representative.

According to the IMD, Saturday will be generally cloudy and breezy in Delhi with the temperature expected to be between 39 and 27 degrees Celsius.

Jaipur in Rajasthan, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, many places in Haryana, and Chandigarh, Friday saw the temperatures ranging between 44 to 35 degrees Celsius.

“In the wake of approaching western disturbances, isolated spells of rain can also occur in most parts of Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 to 48 hours,” an IMD official added.

Shimla, the popular hill town of Himachal Pradesh, was a cool and pleasant place at 27.7 celsius.
