Ajnala (Punjab): In a case of honour killing, two young lovers were brutally killed in Punjab’s Amritsar district by the girl’s family, police said Saturday.
Sarabjit Singh (23) and Amarjit Kaur (21) were killed in Bhullar village in Ajnala tehsil Friday night by the latter’s family members using sharp-edged weapons.
“We have registered a case of murder against Amarjit’s father Kulwinder Singh and her brothers Gurpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh,” investigation officer Balkar Singh told IANS.
They killed the two and threw the bodies at an isolated place near their house. The bodies were found Saturday morning.
“Sarabjit and Amarjit, who were from the same caste, were going around with each other for the last few months. Amarjit’s family members were against their relationship and yesterday (Friday) night they killed the two,” he added.
After the incident, the village, around 25 km from Amritsar city, remained tense. Heavy police force was deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.
