Kolkata: A police officer in West Bengal’s Burdwan district was beaten up Monday by villagers when he tried to stop a clash between Trinamool Congress and Communist Party of India-Marxist (Marxist) activists, police said.
“Being informed that supporters of Trinamool and CPI-M are fighting in Raina, the officer-in-charge of Raina police station Anirban Basu rushed to the spot along with four police officials. As he tried to pacify the situation, he was manhandled by the political activists,” said Burdwan Superintendent of Police Humayan Kabir.
“Though a huge police force was rushed to the spot, the political activists fled the area,” Kabir told IANS over phone.
